England's Terry Makes Tiger Look Tame

Just when you thought Tiger Woods’ recent exploits couldn’t be topped, along comes soccer superstar John Terry to set the bar for despicable acts even higher.

Watch out, Terry! The media are coming for you

The 29 year-old footballer for Chelsea – named “Daddy of the Year” in 2009 and who moonlights as captain for England’s National Team – is making headlines in the UK and around the world for his alleged lurid affair with the now ex-girlfriend of one of his English teammates, Wayne Bridge.

The media in the UK are having an absolute field day with this story. They live for this kind of stuff. In Canadian terms, it’s their equivalent of Scott Niedermayer being caught sleeping around with Sidney Crosby’s girl. It’s that big.

Terry’s proving to be one classy Brit. Clearly everything you could ever want in a captain for your national sport, especially with the World Cup lurking on the not-too-distant horizon.

The question now on everyone’s mind is – how will this scandal affect England’s chances at the World Cup? In an article in today’s Wall Street Journal, former U.S. national team player, Alexi Lalas, doesn’t believe the extra attention surrounding Terry and Bridge will make the difference: “You don’t have to like your teammates; you have to be confident they can do their job on the field. If England’s going to fail, it’s not going to be because of this.” He must then believe his home nation – Team USA – will be England’s downfall. They will face Terry and the rest of Team England in their World Cup opener on June 12 in South Africa.

Moving forward to this summer, do you think Terry should remain as England’s captain – a title he’s held since 2006?
