Teixeira, A-Rod Provide Compelling Cases Why You Should Hate The Yankees

The big, bad Yankees proved one thing this past week – they are a classless, bunch of jerks. Fair to say we already knew that about A-Rod, but now we can officially add slugger Mark Teixeira to the list.

It Was A Rude Welcome To The Big Leagues For Wilson

Teixeira’s Violent Home Plate Collision With Angels’ Bobby Wilson Injures Rookie Catcher

Talk about your cheap shots. During the third inning of Friday’s game vs. Anaheim, Yankees’ Robinson Cano gets a base hit to right field, sending Teixeira home from 2nd base. Rookie catcher Bobby Wilson – making his first MLB start – situates himself in front of home plate, waiting for the throw. There’s a play at the plate. The throw is late, but Teixeira elects to crush Wilson, who’s not even blocking the plate, rather than merely slide in safely. In turn, Wilson ends up on the DL with a concussion and severe ankle injury.

Welcome to the big leagues, Rook.

Clean or dirty?

According to Angels’ OF Torii Hunter, the collision was completely uneccessary. Perhaps Teixeira justification for such a reckless play was to get back at the Angels for plunking him earlier in the game. Either way, there’s no place in baseball for a cheap shot like this. A guy shouldn’t have his season – and possibly career – ruined cause an arrogant SOB carries a chip on his shoulder. Maybe it’s time to re-examine this issue and eliminate collisions at home plate altogether. I mean, what ever happened to the good ol’ hook slide anyway?

A-Rod Proves Once Again That He’s An A-Hole

Teixeira’s unnecessary cheap shot comes only one day after Alex Rodriguez arrogantly crossed over the pitcher’s mound while returning to first base following a foul ball – a big no-no in baseball’s unwritten code of honor. The play incensed A’s starter Dallas Braden, and even prompted former Yankees pitcher David Wells to sound off on A-Rod that he’s full of crap.

A-Rod Has A Long History Of Inappropriate Antics

This kind of act is hardly out of character for Rodriguez. Remember a few years ago when Rodriguez yelled out ‘Mine!’, while rounding the bases on a routine pop-up to third, causing Blue Jays third baseman Howie Clark to misplay the ball? All in a day’s work for the classless and cocky A-Rod.

It’s just too bad these traits are now starting to rub off on his teammates.

Just another reason to hate those Damn Yankees, I guess.
