Got World Cup fever?
Then you gotta check out this 3-minute advert released this week by Nike to promote the upcoming tournament from June 11 – July 11. Featuring an incredible cast – from Brazil’s Ronaldinho to Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo to England’s Wayne Rooney – along with some classic cameos from the likes of Roger Federer and Kobe Bryant, this is sports advertising at its very best.
A marked improvement over the shoe company’s last foray into big name advertising – namely Tiger Woods’ conscience being questioned posthumously by the voice of his late father, released just prior to this year’s Masters.
Ironically, Nike isn’t even an official sponsor for the World Cup, a distinction that belongs to Adidas. But after watching the swoosh’s star-studded ad, the three stripes now have their work cut out for them if they hope to upstage one of their biggest rivals during next month’s Biggest Show on Earth.
